Authorities in South Texas removed a 5-year-old alleged sex assault victim from the care of her grandparents when they discovered her grandfather is a registered sex offender.
The girl and her two siblings were placed in the custody of their grandparents last week when the children's mother was arrested for failing to report alleged sexual assault of the child.

Authorities also arrested a 23-year-old man on a charge that he sexually assaulted the girl late last year.
The Department of Family and Protective Services says the child's family didn't tell investigators that the 53-year-old grandfather is a registered sex offender.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino says the three children were removed from their grandparents' home Sunday night and placed in the custody of a family friend who has been fully vetted. ..Source.. by KWTX.com
